Rusted Latch

Rusted Latch
Rusted Latch

I bet this old Italian door and latch could tell some great stories if they could talk. Age builds character, and this door has what people in the antiques world would call “patina”. Google AdSense seems to think this site is all about rust, rust removers and rust inhibitors… so I guess it’s about time I put something rust related up.

The Ebony Hillbillies

The Ebony Hillbillies
The Ebony Hillbillies

It was a rough commute yesterday. Something happened with the fragile wires that make the trains go into Penn Station, and my morning commute turned into a 3 hour annoyance. I felt really bad for the guy across the aisle from me. He was headed for an important meeting, and I could feel the stress building in each cell phone call to his boss/customer/client as he tried to keep them happy. After leaving work at the end of the day, I headed back to Penn to see what awaited me for my commute back home. Luckily for me, the trains were running on schedule, *and* I got to listen to the fine Bluegrass of the Ebony Hillbillies. It took the edge off at the end of a long day. Just wanted to give them a quick shout out from a grateful commuter.

Man on Red Stairs

Man on Red Stairs

The red stairs at Duffy Square sit on top of the TKTS booth on Broadway. I was hoping to climb up and take a few shots early this morning, but they were not open yet. A couple of workers were cleaning them in the freezing wind. I took my gloves off for a few minutes to get the shot, and my hands were stinging when I was done. Every time I pass the stairs at night, I give up after seeing the long line of people waiting to climb them. I think they should get a bunch of these guys in the red coveralls and a Marilyn Monroe lookalike to do a classic dance number up there… somebody get to work on that.
